If your blink camera is flashing red, it means there’s a problem with its internet connection. Luckily, there are a few ways to troubleshoot this issue.
First, try restarting the device to see if it restores the network connection. If not, you can factory reset it to try to fix the issue.
Battery
If your Blink camera‘s built-in LED starts flashing red, it may indicate that the battery is getting low. This is an important concern because it means the camera needs to be replaced soon.
The first thing you should do is check the batteries. It’s best to use AA-sized lithium batteries, which are more energy dense than standard alkaline batteries and tend to last longer under normal conditions.
Another way to confirm whether the battery is faulty is to perform a soft reset. To do this, remove one of the batteries and wait for about 5 seconds before putting it back in.
If the camera still blinks after doing a soft reset, you might want to try factory resetting it. This will make the device reboot and update its software. It might take a few minutes, but it’s a good way to get things working again.
Wi-Fi
Blink cameras rely on a non-cellular 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection to store footage and transmit alerts to your smartphone. This connection must have a minimum upload speed of 2 MBPS and at least three bars of signal strength to function properly.
When the camera loses its WiFi connection, it will display a red light on the Sync Module and the app will show “No Sync Module” as a banner and thumbnail image in the Cameras section of the app. This is normal, and it will reconnect if the network name or password change.
Motion Detection
When your blink camera detects motion, it will flash red to confirm that it is detecting the motion. This feature is enabled by default in all Blink cameras, but it can be turned off if you wish to.
You may be able to find the reason behind your blink camera’s red light by checking your notifications on your mobile device. If you have set up notifications for motion detection, your camera will send a notification to your phone, which will trigger the LED to flash until you tap on it and review the footage.
If you don’t see the red light in your mobile app, it could be due to a more severe issue. In that case, you should try resetting your camera first, as it can fix any setup issues you may be experiencing.
If resetting your camera doesn’t work, you can also try power cycling it. This will completely reboot your Blink camera and help discharge any remaining charge from the camera circuit.
Settings
A blink camera’s red light is often a sign that the device is trying to establish an internet connection. This process typically involves showing 5 long flashes, followed by a short flash every three seconds.
If your blink camera’s red light is flashing continuously, it could be because you’re using faulty batteries or your network connection is not strong enough to support the device. In this case, try replacing the batteries with a new pair.
Your Blink camera also has a reset button that can be used to factory reset the device. This is a good step to try if all other troubleshooting methods have failed. Use something thin, like a paper clip or needle, to press the button and hold it down for a few seconds.
