Often, blink cameras will flash red indicator lights after they detect a motion. This is a function that can be turned off or on, depending on your preferences.
If your Blink camera is flashing red, it could mean there are a few different issues. Follow these troubleshooting tips to fix the problem.
Power Issues
Blink cameras use AA 1.5 volt Lithium non-rechargeable batteries to operate. It is essential that you use the correct batteries for your device to avoid issues with it not working properly.

If your blink camera is flashing red 5 or 6 times after the blue recording light goes out it means that the batteries are dead and need to be replaced. Make sure you only use fresh size AA 1.5 volt Lithium non-rechargeable AA batteries on your device.
Alternatively, your blink camera could be experiencing power problems due to a Sync Module malfunction. Sync Modules manage your devices by connecting them to the internet, your home system, and Blink servers.
If your Sync Module isn’t working, reset it. Locate the reset button on the side of your Sync Module and press it. Afterwards, you’ll be able to add your cameras again.
Battery Issues
Blink cameras are battery operated, so the blinking red light is usually a warning that you need to replace your batteries. This can happen when you use low-quality batteries or forget to replace them.
The blinking red light can also be a sign that your Blink camera isn’t connected to the internet. If your camera is flashing red, this could mean it’s not connecting to your Wi-Fi network or it may be that the device’s battery is running low and needs to be replaced.
You can quickly fix this issue by power cycling your device. This process completely reboots the camera and also helps discharge any charge in the device’s circuit.
Wi-Fi Issues
Sometimes wifi issues can cause your blink camera to blink red, especially if the internet is not working well or your batteries are low. To help you determine if this is the issue, you can try resetting your sync module.
This reset is done by pressing the reset button located on the side of the Sync Module. Use a pointy, non-metallic object to reach this button and press it for about 2 minutes.
After the reset, your Sync Module should connect to the Wi-Fi network and you can set up the cameras. This process will require the Sync Module serial number, new wifi network name and password, and good signal strength.
If these steps don’t work, you can call Blink support to get expert assistance. Other troubleshooting steps might include relocating the camera or replacing the batteries.
Software Issues
If your blink camera is flashing red and unable to connect to the Blink app, there could be some software issues that need to be resolved. This could include a software update, Wi-Fi connection problems or faulty batteries.
Your camera might also be having trouble detecting motion. This is typically a normal part of your camera’s functionality and can be fixed by changing to fresh batteries or performing a hard reset.
You can do this by putting something thin in the reset hole and pushing down until a red light shows up. After the camera reboots, you should be able to reconnect with the app again.
If all of the above methods fail to solve the problem, you may need to do a factory reset on your blink camera. This is a simple process that can be done with a household pin or staple, and will get your camera back to the way it was when you bought it.
