Blink cameras can sometimes flash a red light. This happens when a problem occurs and needs to be fixed.
One of the most common reasons why your blink camera is flashing a red light is because it has lost its internet connection. The other is because the batteries are dead.
Power cycle
When your Blink camera is flashing red it could mean a number of things. For example, it might be due to low batteries or a lack of internet connectivity.
Another possible cause is that the camera is simply detecting motion. If your camera has this feature enabled, it may flash briefly every time the camera detects movement.
However, this will stop after the motion has stopped.
In this case, your best bet is to reset the camera.
To do this, you’ll need to use a paper clip or thin object to press the small reset button inside your Blink outdoor camera’s back cover for five or six seconds.
This will then hard reset the device, rebooting it and updating its software. It’s a safe way to resolve any issues that your Blink camera might be having. If you’re not sure how to do this, you can always contact Blink support for further instructions.
Replace the batteries
Blink cameras flash a red light during setup. This is normal and should go away after the camera has connected to your home WiFi network.
However, if your blink camera continues to flash this light even after you’ve completed the initial setup process, it may indicate a network connectivity issue. This may be due to a poor connection or a low battery.
You can also have brief red blinks when your camera detects motion. This is a normal part of the sensor’s operation, and it should stop after the motion stops.
If the LED doesn’t stop blinking after you’ve finished recording, it’s time to replace the batteries. They typically last about two years, give or take.
If you’re using a Blink Mini or Blink Video Doorbell, use a paper clip or small screwdriver to press the reset button on the bottom of the device. Then, wait for the red light to change to a blinking green / solid blue pattern. If it doesn’t change after 120 seconds, call Blink support for help.
Reset the camera
If you notice your Blink camera flashing red with new batteries, it may mean that the Sync Module is trying to reconnect to your home Wi-Fi network. This is a common issue that you can resolve by resetting your Blink camera to factory defaults.
The first time you connect a new Blink camera, it will flash a hard blink 3 or 4 times, followed by a softer, repetitive blink until it can establish an internet connection.
This pattern is normal and it will happen again the next time you try to set up your camera. However, if the light is solid and slow for 2 or 3 times, it indicates that there are issues with the battery.
Reconnect to Wi-Fi
When a blink camera flashes red with new batteries, it is usually an indication that the camera needs to be connected to Wi-Fi. This will allow you to view live video and access stored clips on the cloud.
Blink cameras communicate with other wireless devices such as Alexa, smartphones, and laptops through the Internet via WiFi. When a blink camera first powers on, the red LED will flash five times and then every three seconds, until an Internet connection is established.
It is also possible to see a brief red flash during motion detection, which will indicate that the camera is trying to find a connection to the Wi-Fi network.
To reconnect to Wi-Fi, open the Blink camera app on your phone and enter the serial number of your Sync Module (it should be called “BLINK-”). Once it has been scanned, select your home WiFi network from the list and follow the instructions. If you are unable to connect, you may need to reset your router.
