If your Blink camera is blinking red, it may mean one of two things: a bad internet connection or low battery. Luckily, these issues are easily fixed.
Before contacting client support, try a hard reset. This will reset your camera to its factory settings and fix a lot of issues.
Battery
The battery is the source of power for your Blink camera. It consists of two terminals made of different chemicals (typically metals), the cathode and the anode, separated by a chemical medium called an electrolyte that allows the flow of electrical charge between the electrodes.
A battery has a limited capacity for conversion of chemical energy into electrical energy because of its size. The amount of energy a battery can hold per unit volume is referred to as its ‘energy density’.
Generally, the higher the energy density, the better a battery is for powering devices, as well as being smaller and more compact in size.
If your blink camera is flashing red, it usually means that the batteries are low or that there is an issue with your internet connection. If you’re experiencing this issue, the first step is to reset your camera.
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is a wireless technology that allows devices like your phone, laptop, tablet, or camera to connect to the internet. It uses radio waves to transmit data packets over a range of 2.4 gigahertz or 5 gigahertz.
If your Blink camera is showing that it’s offline or losing its WiFi connection, you should check to make sure that you have a strong and stable Wi-Fi network. If you don’t, it might be a router or modem issue that needs to be fixed.
If you’re having trouble with your Blink camera’s Wi-Fi connection, you can reset it by locating the reset button on the side of the Sync Module. Press and hold the reset button with a pointy object, such as a paper clip or tac, until you see a solid red light (which should take about 30 seconds).
Motion Detection
Sometimes your blink camera may flash a red light due to motion detection. This is not something to be worried about, as it is a normal function of your camera and does not have a negative impact on its functioning.
Most Blink cameras come with an infrared sensor which detects movement using infrared rays. This type of sensor is less likely to trigger false alarms than dual technology sensors, but it still has its share of issues.
It is also important to check the sensitivity settings, as low-sensitivity settings can cause motion sensors to miss movements within their range. This is particularly true if you have your camera placed in an area that does not see much movement, such as a garage.
It is also a good idea to reposition your cameras to get optimal coverage for their motion sensors. This means moving the camera away from windows and other areas that are likely to trigger false alarms.
Settings
If your Blink outdoor camera is flashing red, it could mean that there are a couple of issues. First, your device may not be able to connect to the internet.
Second, the battery might need to be replaced. Luckily, these problems are easy to fix.
One quick and simple solution is to power cycle the camera, a process that will discharge it of all remaining electricity.
Afterwards, you can re-insert the batteries and the device should work as it did when you first set it up.
However, if the issue persists, it may be time to do a factory reset of your device. This will completely wipe all of your settings and custom configurations, making it like you unboxed it for the first time.
