Whether you’re just starting out with your blink mini camera or you’ve had it for a while, you may occasionally notice that the camera’s solid red light is flashing.
This can indicate a number of different issues, but two of the most common are a low battery and a bad internet connection. Learn how to fix the blink mini camera solid red light and get your Blink security system back in action!
1. Battery
A blink mini camera solid red light usually means that the battery is low. It’s a good idea to replace the batteries as soon as possible before they become completely dead.
You can replace the batteries on Blink XT and XT2 models by sliding and holding a grey switch alongside an arrow pointing at the device’s bottom. These devices are meant to be airtight, so you will need to apply gentle force while pulling up the battery cover with your thumb.
Another option is to use rechargeable AA lithium batteries that are designed to last for 2 years or more. They are much more powerful than alkaline batteries and provide a better performance.
You can also buy a battery expansion pack for your blink camera that will allow you to use up to 4 AA lithium batteries. However, you should know that using rechargeable batteries with your blink camera may damage its performance. The battery lifespan of your blink camera will be shorter when using rechargeable batteries, as they won’t be able to produce the same amount of energy.
2. Wi-Fi
A solid red light on a blink mini camera indicates a Wi-Fi connection issue. This could be related to a bad Wi-Fi network, low battery, or something else.
First, check that your Wi-Fi network is strong and stable. If it’s not, try moving the Blink mini closer to your Wi-Fi router or resetting your router.
If that doesn’t work, try using a different Wi-Fi router. You may also need to change the network channel your router uses.
After you’ve reset your router, the blink mini should reconnect to your Wi-Fi network. This should take only a few seconds. If it takes longer, you can call Blink support for additional troubleshooting steps.
3. Sync Module
If your Blink camera is flashing a solid red light, this indicates that there is an issue with the Sync Module. This is the device that connects all of your cameras to the internet.
This can be caused by a few different things. The most common is an Internet outage or a weak network signal.
To fix this, disconnect the Sync Module and wait for a few seconds before reconnecting it. This will give the camera a chance to re-establish an internet connection.
If the Sync Module is still not working, you may need to reset your Sync Module locally. This involves pressing the reset button on the side of the Sync Module until the LED starts to blink.
4. Settings
When a blink mini camera solid red light shows up, it usually means there is an issue with the internet or the batteries. Both problems can be fixed by replacing the two AA 1.5 volt Lithium batteries or by doing a reset of the device.
If the blink camera is flashing red while you’re recording, the batteries are probably dead. It’s a good idea to change them before they run out completely.
Alternatively, you can also try resetting the camera Wi-Fi connection by going into your router settings and changing the network to “Wi-Fi only.” Once you’ve done that, the camera should reconnect to the Wi-Fi network and stop showing a red light while trying to do so.
