If your Blink camera has a red blinking light, there could be many reasons why it is doing so. It might be due to a problem with your Wi-Fi connection, a lack of battery power or even a software update that needs to be pushed through to the device.
Regardless of the reason, it is a good idea to reset your Blink camera before calling customer support. That will reset the camera back to factory settings, so it will be just as it was when you purchased it.
1. Reset the Sync Module
If the Sync Module on your blink camera is blinking red, it means it isn’t able to connect to the internet. This is a common problem and could be caused by a variety of things, from the Sync Module itself to your router or modem.
Generally, the best way to resolve this is to power cycle your Blink Sync Module. This involves unplugging your SM from its power source and waiting for about 30 seconds before plugging it back in.
This is the easiest way to reset your Sync Module and reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network. If this doesn’t fix the problem, it may be time to contact your internet provider for a replacement Sync Module.
Your Sync Module should have a reset button on the side, next to the USB Type-A port. You can insert a paperclip or thin item into the opening to press the button lightly until you feel a click.
2. Reconnect the Camera to Your Wi-Fi
Your camera‘s red blinking light may indicate that the camera is unable to communicate with your Wi-Fi network. This can happen if you change your Wi-Fi password or the WiFi SSID, or if the networking hardware on your router is replaced.
If you can’t connect to your WiFi network, power the camera down for a few seconds then switch it back on. This will reset the device and allow it to discover your wireless network again.
You can also reconnect your camera using AP mode or WPS. For instructions on how to do this, see the specific camera’s guide in Video Devices.
If you can’t find the WPS button on your camera, locate the WPS button on your router. Hold it for 1 to 6 seconds (varies between router models) to put the router into WPS mode.
3. Reset the Batteries
If your Blink camera is flashing a red blinking light, it means the batteries are low or your Wi-Fi connection is offline. This issue can be fixed by resetting your camera and reconnecting it to your Wi-Fi network.
If this is the first time you’ve had to reset your Blink camera, it might take a few minutes for the camera to complete this process. However, it’s a simple fix and will get your camera back to normal in no time.
Reset your Blink camera to factory settings, which will remove any bugs or glitches that may be causing it to display the red blinking light. Once you have performed a reset, you can connect the Sync Module to your app and Wi-Fi again and start recording.
Resetting the Batteries on a blink camera is very easy and requires little to no tech knowledge at all. In fact, it’s even easier than changing your own batteries for most devices!
4. Reconnect the Camera to Your Wi-Fi
If the red blinking light on your camera flashes, it means that you need to reconnect the camera to your Wi-Fi. To do this, connect the camera to your router using an Ethernet cable, and then update your camera’s WiFi information.
Depending on your router, the WPS button may be on the back of the camera or under a small black plug. Refer to your router’s installation manual for more details on where to find the WPS button.
To put your camera into WPS mode, press and hold the WPS button on the camera for a few seconds (usually from 1 to 6 seconds). It may vary slightly between different router models.
After a few minutes, the camera and router should discover each other. Then the camera’s LED should turn green. If it does not, try connecting the camera to your router again, or resetting your router.
