The blinking red light on your Blink camera is a normal indicator that the device is still initializing and configuring.
Once everything is set up, the camera should stop flashing the red light.
Battery
The battery is the backbone of the Blink Camera, powering the Camera and allowing it to connect to Wi-Fi. It’s also the first thing to check and replace when the blink red light starts flashing, because it could be due to a dead battery.
Blink cameras use AA lithium 1.5 V non-chargeable batteries. These are a great choice because they’re cheap, powerful, and have a long life span.
If the red LED is blinking a solid 5-6 times after the blue recording light goes out, then it means that the battery is low and needs to be replaced.
Another common cause of a blinking red light is an issue with the network connection on the Blink Camera. This can be caused by a loss of internet or an erroneous firmware update.
A reset of the Sync Module should resolve this problem as well, depending on the current configuration of your Blink Camera. Simply locate the reset button on the right side, usually near the USB port. Press it with a thin object like a paper clip for about five or six seconds to reboot the Camera back to factory settings.
Wi-Fi Connection
Blink cameras have a built-in Wi-Fi connection that uses the 2.4GHz frequency. This connection is essential for storing video on the Sync Module and connecting to the Blink app.
When this connection drops, the camera will try to reconnect to the Wi-Fi network. This is a common cause of blinking red lights.
The simplest way to check whether the Wi-Fi is still working is to open up the Blink app on your smart device and see if you can connect to the camera through “live view.”
If you can’t connect, then it might be time for some troubleshooting. Start by resetting the Sync Module and the camera to the default settings, then reconnect them to your WiFi router. If that does not work, then you might need to move your WiFi router closer to the Sync Module or the camera.
Sync Module
A blinking red light on your blink camera could be a sign that the Sync Module is having trouble establishing a connection. This is a normal part of the initialization and setup process.
The Sync Module can be used to connect up to 10 of your Blink Indoor, Outdoor, XT2, or XT Mini cameras (not required for Mini). It also supports local video storage, meaning you can view, share, and download locally stored footage from up to 10 cameras – all right in the Blink app.
If the Sync Module is having trouble establishing the connection, it might need to be reset. To perform a hard reset, simply put something thin in the reset hole and press the button.
Reset
If the blinking red light on your Blink camera persists even after troubleshooting, it may be time to perform a reset. This will return the device to its factory default settings, erasing any custom configurations or data.
To perform a reset, locate the reset button on the right side of the Blink camera, usually near the USB port. Push and hold the button with a thin object like a paper clip until you see the red light flashing.
This action should cause the Sync Module to perform a reboot back into setup mode, allowing it to connect to the network again. This is an effective way to bring the camera back online if you have lost your Wi-Fi connection or your batteries are low.
