If you notice that your blink camera flashes red, it could be for a few different reasons. It’s important to know what this flashing light means so you can address the issue and get your camera back up and running!
The first thing to check is your internet connection. If your internet is fine, the blink camera’s flashing red light should disappear.
Battery Issue
A blinking red light on your Blink camera is usually an indication of something being wrong with the device. It may be a battery issue, or a loss of internet connection.
To fix this issue, reset the camera by using a paper clip or thin object to push the button on the back of the camera for five or six seconds. It should then stop flashing red and switch to a blinking green / solid blue pattern.
If the red blinking light is still occurring even after resetting it, it could mean that the batteries are running low or dead. Replace them as soon as possible so that the issue doesn’t recur.
Network Issue
When the blink camera flashes red, it means that the camera is having issues with your network. This is typically caused by a low battery or connection issue, but it can also be a sign that the camera isn’t connecting to Wi-Fi.
Blink cameras are designed to connect to the internet to provide you with live video and other features, so it’s important that they have a stable connection. If you notice that the camera isn’t connected, follow these steps to resolve the problem.
To reset your Blink Sync Module, push and hold the button on the right side of the device (near the USB port). Use a thin object like a paper clip to insert it into the hole.
This operation will cause the Sync Module to reboot back into setup mode and reconnect with your camera. If your camera is still not connecting, check the signal strength between your camera and Sync Module. You want to see at least three blue bars, which signifies that the two hardware are connected.
Motion Detection Issue
When your blink camera flashes red, it means that you’re detecting motion. Generally, this is not something to worry about because it can be very helpful in keeping your home safe.
However, if the red light persists, there may be a more serious problem. In this case, you should contact Blink support and have them take a closer look.
This particular issue is usually caused by an ongoing network connectivity problem that needs to be fixed before the camera can detect motion. To fix it, make sure that your camera is connected to the internet and that it’s receiving consistent power.
If this doesn’t solve your problem, try resetting the Sync Module on your camera. To do this, locate the reset button on its side and press and hold it until it flashes red.
Sync Module Issue
When your Blink camera flashes red, it may be a sign that your Sync Module isn’t connected to your wireless network. This is a common problem, and can be fixed with a few simple steps.
First, make sure your router and modem are working properly. If they’re not, you should try power cycling them to see if that helps.
After that, follow the Blink app’s instructions to change the Sync Module to your home Wi-Fi. This should only take two minutes and should get your camera back online again.
If that doesn’t work, a factory reset is also possible, but this is recommended only if your Blink camera is under warranty. This will return it to its default settings, and can be done with a household pin or staple.
